Introduction
May 9th, 2008 at 3:09 pm (traditional irish flute, irish flute)

Hello. This site contains recordings I have made as a source of tunes for people who play the flute, or other instruments for that matter. They are just versions of tunes as I remember them. My memory isn’t the best so some of the versions and the titles might be a bit astray but hopefully they’ll be of some use. I’ve tried to play the tunes slowly first and then at a quicker pace so that they can be of use to a variety of players. I’ll keep recording more tunes whenever I get a chance. If there are days without new posts, that doesn’t necessarily mean I’ve given up. I’ll always get back in a while.
I usually play the tunes once through slowly to make them easier to learn, then I have a bit of a run at them to give another view of them. I hope this approach is OK. If anyone has any comments, or tune suggestions, please get in touch (iflute@googlemail.com). Thanks,
Michael.
(The tunes are split over a number of pages to stop the pages being too slow to load. To go to the next page, please click on Previous Entries at the bottom of the page, otherwise use the index on the left of the screen to navigate to a specific tune).

hello. Just a not to say I’m enjoying your blog. I’ve been playing mandolin and guitar in Celtic sessions for about 2 years now and have just taken up the tin whistle too. You’ve got some great old tunes here I’ve not heard before. I’ll have to learn some and take to the sessions! Don’t worry about the washing machine either. It’s barely noticeable.
Cheers!

Hi Michael Incredible site indeed. And so helpful for for a tentative fluteplayer like me. And I love your style of playing (and Harry Bradley’s, and Marcas O’Murchu’s , and Colm O’Donnell’s…). I’ve known your site for just about a week but I’m already addicted to it : several times a day I log in to check for new tunes and new (informative and most of the time hilarious) comments. Keep going. How could we thank you, Michael? Best. Pierre

Thanks for these comments. I’m glad that people are getting some use from this site. I’ll keep going as long as my tune supply allows me. If I run out then I’ll just have to learn some more. It’s about time I did anyway. I’ve spent too much time forgetting them so the tide is bound to turn (is it?)
Cheers,
Michael.

Been lurking a little ( a little like flunking, just less pressure to perform) - and learning myself a new tune or two every day or so, just finished up with your King of the Clans, which I’d never heard before and liked that hook in both parts the starts with a C nat. By the way > if you’re the Michael with the group of tunes from some distance away, (or the remote badger’s lair?) so to speak, then: did buy. well impressed. Cheers Billy
Wanted to learn “Sweeney’s dream” but kept heading off on the Old Road to Garry, one of tem’s got to go!

Michael,
Great tunes, nice style and great sound.
I’m on the long learning road and it’s really nice to have a source of tunes in ‘D’ that can help me learn., I like listening to different versions of tunes and it’s nice to hear your versions too.
Currently learning Maids of Mount Cisco and Galway Rambler set from the Michael McGoldrick CD, although I think he’s got them in Eb.
Well done keep er lit.

Hello Michael
I tried to get this message to you, but I’m not sure where it went. It is obvious from the hundred or so hits that each of your tunes gets that you have a lot of people interested in what you are doing. I’m from Australia and I play whistle and flute and I really like your site. I have a few friends who are into Irish tunes who are also very impressed. I feel I would like to talk to you. If you feel like sending me your phone no at: (I have taken a note of the email address and removed it from here to keep it private - Michael) I will phone you sometime.
Thanks for the tunes!

Hi Michael, If you need ideas: all the Paddy Fahys (jigs and reels) and the Martin Wynnes; that should keep you going for a while and educate the rest of us! Take care, Jonathan
