The Leitrim Fancy
April 29th, 2007 at 2:17 pm (traditional irish flute, irish flute)
Here’s a nice hornpipe. A flute player called Alexandre suggested this tune, along with a few other ones. If anyone requests a particular tune, I’ll gladly record it as long as I know it. My memory isn’t what it was so tunes are exiting my head quicker than they are being replaced.

I think there is also a jig with the same name.

There could well be. I’ll have to look out for it.

This is definitely a jig (6/8 time), and not a hornpipe (4/4 time or similar) whatsoever. The Bothy Band have a great recording of this tune. By the way I like this site!

There’s a jig and a hornpipe going by this name. When I get a chance I’ll check that I have both on the site.

This is known as the Leitrim Jig or Leitrim Fancy. The Bothy band play it in “A Jig and Five Reels.” Nice job with it.
