Fifing tune (Paddy O’Carroll)

Here's a tune from the fife & Lambeg drum tradition.  Some of these have crept into the repertoires of Irish traditional flute players too.  I can't remember a name for this one.

I believe this tune is called Paddy O’Carroll — a rather unexpected name for a tune from the Lambeg tradition. But a good tune is a good tune no matter what.

Yes, the tune is known as Paddy O’ Carroll. It would have been considered an A.O.H. fifing tune and played mostly in Co. Antrim, however like all good tunes it travels well and now almost everyone plays it. As a traditional fifer myself, I regularly play this tune to the accompaniment of the Lambeg Drum.

Thanks for that information, Mark and Paddy. I’ll update the title.
